The Sound of Music And Were Not Talking About Birdies Chirping Golf carts and golf bags are getting accessorized a bit more often these days Ive seen more than a few that are equipped to bring the hills alive with the sound of music while youre golfing Rodney Dangerfields character in Caddyshack would be proud But just as gambling was unwelcome at Bushwood music is often not a welcome sound on golf courses especially the fancy ones And with that we have ourselves the golf version of a good ole fashioned Footloose debate Play that funky music Or is your day on the golf course the day the music died I used to have a nasty habit while playing I would re grip my club at the top of my backswing Results not good The worst part about it was that I couldnt work it out on the range because when I went to the range I didnt do it Alas like so many things in golf it was mental My friend Justin gave me the first piece of advice that led to the end of the dreaded re grip He says one day Have you tried singing to yourself Im thinking to myself yeah in the shower But Justin tapped into what was going on I didnt do it on the range because I was relaxed on the range On the course I tensed up and that re grip was the result So later that day I started singing Pearl Jam tunes my favorite to myself throughout the round The fix wasnt immediate but it was step one to a more relaxed approach Listen to what Justin said about music on the course in general It helps me stay in rhythm find a sense of calm and stay in the moment That sounds like something every golfer heck every person could use Love that But try blasting your top 40 hits as you roam the fairways and youre guaranteed to get a response from others around you that is anything but calm My buddy Bill is a member at a private L A club He says When Im having fun with the boys I love having the boombox playing But when Im uptight country club Bill obviously you cant Bill thought this quote wouldnt be helpful By Mark Willard range tokens presented by to my writing because hes playing both sides of the fairway I told him au contraire His response shows how golf often asks people to be someone other than themselves I think the two sides of Bill ought to be able to meet in the middle of the fairway If you go to Wikipedia and type in music its definition includes words like rhythm tempo and harmony Sounds a lot like a golf swing doesnt it Im not here to play the Kevin Bacon character and go to all of L A s country clubs to tell them they need to install loud speakers on each hole Some players will dig this some wont And like anything else the middle ground needs to be found to ensure respect is being paid to all That said why are so many things illegal at clubs There are signs everywhere saying NO this and NO that Where are the YES signs If music is kept within a group within a fairway or within a green then no harm no foul right Remember the previous quote from Justin whose handicap is really low by the way Music helps him achieve a sense of calm Isnt that why we go to the golf course in the first place Do You Mind Music on the Golf Course click here to let us know Limited spots available To purchase your VIP package please visit scga org appreciation 150 VIP Green Room Experience100 level seatingAll inclusive food and beverage beer wine and soda Great raffle prizes including Pregame Shot on Goal Experience Kings Memorabilia Penalty Box Warm Up SpotsSCGA Night at the RinkMonday February 16 at 7 30 p m Kings vs Tampa Bay LightningCATCH THE ACTION COME OUT AND
